Finance Committee approves $3.73M in year-end transfers, sends salary ordinance back

MARLBOROUGH — June 1, 2026 — Marlborough Finance Committee clears $3.73 million in year-end transfers but sends salary overhaul back. The committee voted 5-0 on each of seven transfers, including $3,177,000 from undesignated funds to cover a snow and ice line budgeted at $1 million against 20 events and 68-plus inches of snow. Comptroller Brian Krause disclosed that wireless antenna lease payments — 19 carriers at $1,500 each, or $28,500 annually — have gone partly uncollected for years after staff turnover broke the tracking system. On a separate item, the committee approved Collins Center-driven job descriptions for four vacant positions but rejected Mayor J. Christian Dumas's proposed 15-step pay scale, asking for resubmission in the city's customary seven-step format. Council President Michael Ossing called the 15-step structure "fiscally unattainable" and warned union contract talks were watching.
